Faye and Joel's Aberdeen Wedding at Logie Country House.

Faye and Joel's Aberdeen Wedding at Logie Country House.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Faye and Joel's special day at Logie Country House, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. It is a beautiful and historic estate in Scotland's Aberdeenshire region. Logie Country House offers a stunning setting for weddings and events with its elegant architecture and picturesque surroundings. This landmark property adds a touch of timeless elegance to your wedding celebration, featuring beautiful gardens, woodlands, riverside settings (and even a bridge over to their island), providing a scenic backdrop for your wedding photos and offering on-site accommodation for around 50 of your guests, which can be convenient for both the wedding party and guests.

They first met me in December 2019 about photographing their Aberdeen wedding in October 2020, rescheduling to the 19th of February 2022 due to COVID restrictions.

But, in the week leading up to the wedding, the weather forecast took a turn with Storm Eunice due to heavy snow.

Logie Country House is an exclusive-use venue in Aberdeen. The couples arrive on Friday and leave on Monday, with most roads into Aberdeen at a standstill on Friday due to the snow. The wedding party made the short journey to the venue with help from a tractor and snowplough. With the weather forecast not looking favourable, I booked a B & B in Inverurie for the night before.

I woke to beautiful blue skies with snow in the morning. And this is why I love being an Aberdeen wedding photographer! You never know what the weather will be like on the day.

I went to Logie at 9 a.m. to prepare for the bridal party, finishing my hair and makeup. Arriving at Logie, I sorted my kit and went to the bridal suite to start the day with Faye and her bridesmaids. As things begin to get going, I get involved with socialising. It helps me and everyone relax and get to know me.

As the hair and makeup continued in the dressing room, I went downstairs to capture some moments with Joel and his groomsmen.

Back with the bridal party, they had to get their dresses steamed before getting into them. All hands to the deck to get Faye into her beautiful dress. Time for a few photos of Nicole doing up the dress, and then we were into some bridal portraits.

At this point, Dad arrived to see the bride ready for the ceremony—another emotional moment with a few tears.

Then it was onto the ceremony, with the bridesmaids leading the way down the stairs, followed by Faye and her Dad. I get them to stop at the house door for some quick portraits. The bridesmaids are waiting to help Faye across the courtyard to the ballroom. I make my way to the front of the room to capture the bride, and Joel gets the first glimpse of his bride as she makes her way on her Dad's arm. Everyone is emotional as Neil Lynch (the celebrant) gets the ceremony underway, recalling all the happy moments for the couple. The ceremony closes with a handfasting and the signing of the register. As they walk down the aisle as husband and wife for the first time, there is a little surprise waiting for Faye outside! Alpacas! Joel had phoned me a week before the wedding to give me a heads-up. Faye had wanted some at the wedding, but it wasn't possible, which was a white lie as Joel had organised them as a surprise for Faye.

As the guests mingled and congratulated the happy couple, I captured natural moments as they chatted over a glass of bubbly.

Then it was back to the serious stuff, capturing the family group photos. We photographed these with a mixture of outdoors and inside, making good use of Logie Country House's snow-covered grounds.

With the family photos complete, I had to take the couple away and capture some bridal portraits with them. Having looked at the schedule with Joel earlier in the day, I spotted a spare hour after the meal and before the first dance at around twilight where I could create some nighttime photos with them.

With the speeches done, it was time for everyone to relax and enjoy the meal and a chance for me to get something to eat and relax for a while.

With the meal over, I got Faye and Joel out for some twilight photos, used the staircase in Logie Country House and the courtyard, and finished the champagne shot with the house in the background.

With the band setting up and sound checking, I set my lighting up for the first dance, ensuring everything was perfect for the final photos of the evening.

A few dances in, with everyone enjoying themselves, I said my goodbyes and started to pack my kit back in the car.

On the one-hour journey back to Elgin, it was time to reflect on another brilliant Aberdeen wedding with a lovely couple, their family and friends. Why do I love being part of a wedding day? I get to meet a lovely group and be part of this happy occasion. I capture the memories that will be part of their wedding album and cherished and passed on to their children and grandchildren.
