Zoey and Andrew’s Wedding at The Seafield Arms Hotel, Cullen

Zoey and Andrew’s wedding at The Seafield Arms Hotel in Cullen was a brilliant day to photograph, with relaxed morning preparations, a beautiful humanist ceremony and portraits along the Moray coast. A beautiful venue, a relaxed morning, a brilliant couple, and the kind of coastal light that makes Cullen such a special part of the Moray coast for a wedding.

I started the day with Zoey and the bridal party in the Sunnyside Suite. There was a calm buzz in the room, with everyone getting ready, chatting and enjoying the morning before the day properly began. After a few relaxed photographs of the early preparations, I took Zoey’s dress down to the Chamber Room. I had spotted the room on my way up, and it felt too good not to use. With its character, warmth, and beautiful details, it was the perfect setting for a few elegant dress photographs before everything was carefully wrapped up and taken upstairs again.

By the time I returned to bridal prep, Struan from Struco Media had joined me on video duties. We worked together throughout the morning, keeping everything relaxed and natural while Zoey and her bridesmaids got ready. Nothing felt rushed or contrived. It was simply about depicting the atmosphere of the morning as it unfolded.
A little later, Struan and I headed over to King’s Cottage, where Andrew and his best man were getting ready. The pace was just as relaxed there, with the guys sorting suits, cufflinks and all the final details before the ceremony. There was also a lovely moment when Andrew presented a gift, which added a more personal touch to the morning coverage.

Then it was back to Zoey and the bridal party in time for the final buttons on the dress. These are always some of my favourite moments of the day. Everything starts to feel very real at this point. Zoey gave gifts to her bridesmaids, and we made time for a few portraits with her mum, the bridesmaids and Isla, the flower girl, before it was time to head downstairs for the ceremony.

Not before Zoey had a spin round the block in a Rolls-Royce.

I made my way to the front of the ceremony room in time to photograph the bridesmaids arriving, followed by Zoey walking in with her dad, Andrew. The ceremony itself was beautifully conducted by Janet Donnelly, Humanist Celebrant, with a lovely harmony of warmth, humour and emotion.

Once the ceremony was over, we took a few moments for everyone to breathe, then headed straight into the confetti shot outside the front of The Seafield Arms. The steps made a great setting for the big group photograph, with everyone gathered together before we moved quickly through the family photos.

After that, Struan and I took Zoey and Andrew away for a little time alone. Cullen is a brilliant place for this because you have so much variety close by. We started on the viaduct overlooking the town, then made our way down to Cullen beach before heading back to The Seafield Arms in time for the meal. It gave them a chance to step away from the rush of the day for a short while, and it gave us a beautiful mix of photographs with the coast, the town and the beach all playing their part.

Between mains and pudding, DJ Paul T brought out a game of musical bingo, which went down brilliantly. Complete houses won a shot, and the first winner of the day was Andrew, Father of the Bride. It was one of those fun little parts of a wedding that guests remember, and it brought a lot of energy to the room before the speeches.

After the meal and speeches, we made the most of another chance to head outside. This time, we took Zoey and Andrew back towards the viaduct arch for a few more portraits. The light had moved, the pace of the day had settled slightly, and it was the perfect point to create something a little different before the evening celebrations began.

Back at The Seafield Arms, it was time for the cake cutting and first dance. By this point, the sun had started to drop, and the sky was beginning to do something special. So, after the first dance, we made a quick dash down the road to photograph Zoey and Andrew overlooking the bay with a gorgeous sunset behind them.

It was worth every second.
On the way back, I spotted one last frame. The curved entrance at The Seafield Arms had a striking shape to it, and I had an idea for a quieter portrait of the two of them sitting on the steps beneath it. It gave us a lovely final photograph before I left them to enjoy the rest of the evening with their guests.
