Mansefield Hotel Wedding Photography in Elgin
The Mansefield Hotel is one of Elgin’s best-known wedding venues, and somewhere I know well as a local wedding photographer. Its central location, accommodation, and purpose-built wedding spaces make it particularly easy to hold the whole day, from getting ready in the morning through to the first dance.
Weddings here usually have a comfortable, relaxed feel. There is no need to move guests between several locations, and everything is close enough that the day can flow without feeling rushed. That leaves more time for the parts that matter: enjoying the company, catching up with people and letting the photographs happen naturally.
The Pavilion is the main wedding space, with doors leading directly into the gardens. It is a clean, contemporary room that can be dressed in many different ways, while the gardens offer an easy option for family photographs and a few relaxed portraits without taking you away from your guests for long.
Why The Mansefield Works So Well for Wedding Photography
From a photography point of view, one of the best things about The Mansefield is how little time needs to be lost from the wedding. The gardens are just outside the Pavilion, so family photographs and portraits can be fitted naturally around the drinks reception rather than becoming a separate event.
The Pavilion’s neutral interior works well in photographs and gives couples plenty of freedom when choosing flowers, colours and table styling. The doors into the gardens also bring useful natural light into the room during the day.
I normally keep couple portraits fairly short. Ten or fifteen minutes in the gardens is often enough, and we can always step outside again later if the evening light is particularly good. That gives you variety without leaving your guests wondering where you have gone.
A Mansefield Hotel Wedding in Elgin
Having photographed weddings at The Mansefield, I know where the day tends to move quickly and where it is worth allowing a little breathing room. Keeping the ceremony, reception and evening celebration together helps enormously. Guests settle into the day, the drinks reception is not interrupted by travelling, and we can work the photographs around what is happening rather than constantly watching the clock.
For Abbie and Stephen’s wedding, I photographed the story of the day from the quieter early moments through to the evening celebrations. Their photographs show how much variety can be created at The Mansefield without turning the wedding into a long photoshoot.

As an Elgin wedding photographer, I am only a short distance from The Mansefield and know the venue and the surrounding area well. That local knowledge is useful when choosing portrait locations, working around the weather and keeping the photography fitted naturally into the day rather than taking you away from your guests for too long.
A Central Elgin Venue That Keeps Things Easy
For many couples, The Mansefield’s biggest advantage is not grandeur for the sake of it. The fact is that the day can feel genuinely easy. Guests travelling from elsewhere in Moray, Inverness, Aberdeen, or further afield have a central Elgin base, and the option to stay on site makes a real difference at weddings where convenience matters.
Where Can We Take Wedding Photographs?
Most of the photographs can be taken within The Mansefield’s own grounds. They work particularly well for family groups, candid photographs during the drinks reception and a short set of couple portraits.
If you would like a little more variety, Elgin Cathedral is nearby and can provide a very different backdrop. I would only suggest leaving the hotel when the timing suits and the kind of photographs you want. There is no need to disappear for an hour simply because a location happens to look impressive.
Food, Hosting and the Overall Experience
A wedding venue is never just about how it looks. It is about how the day feels to be in. The Mansefield places strong emphasis on Scottish hospitality, tailored planning and quality dining, and that side of the experience matters just as much as the room itself. The venue highlights exceptional Scottish cuisine, experienced staff, and a strong service-led approach, all of which are the sorts of things guests tend to remember long after the day is over.
When a venue is well run, everything else tends to fall into place more naturally. People relax. The timeline breathes better. The room feels warmer. From a photography perspective, that always helps because the best images rarely come from forcing the day. They come from giving it room to unfold.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Mansefield Hotel Weddings
Is The Mansefield Hotel a good wedding venue in Elgin?
Yes. It is particularly well suited to couples who want the ceremony, reception, evening celebration and accommodation in one place. That makes the day easier for guests and helps everything feel more relaxed.
Where are wedding photographs taken at The Mansefield?
The hotel gardens are the most convenient option for family photographs and couple portraits. Elgin Cathedral and other locations around Elgin are also nearby if you want a different setting and the wedding timeline allows for it.
How long do wedding photographs take?
I normally allow around 10 to 15 minutes for couple portraits at The Mansefield, plus time for the family photographs you have chosen. We can split the portraits into two short sessions if the light is better later in the day.
What happens if it rains?
We work around it. The Pavilion, hotel interiors and covered areas give us options, and Scottish weather often provides a dry spell later. I use additional lighting where necessary, so poor weather or a darker room does not mean compromising the photographs.
Have you photographed weddings at The Mansefield Hotel?
Yes. I am based locally and have photographed weddings at The Mansefield, so I understand the layout, the gardens, and how the day normally flows between the hotel and the Pavilion.
