The way it moved and sounded, not just the way it looked. One photographer, one calm approach, and a ten-minute film you'll actually want to watch again.

Why I started making films.

After years of handing couples their galleries, I kept hearing the same thing: "I wish we could hear his voice when he said the vows." Photographs freeze a moment beautifully, but they can't give you your dad's speech wobbling on the third line, the pipes starting up as you walk out, or the noise the room made when the first dance began. So I now offer a highlight film as an add-on for couples who book me for their photography. I shoot it myself, on the same professional cameras I use for your stills, in the same quiet, documentary way. Nothing about how I photograph your day changes. You also get the moving, sounding version of it.

What your film looks like.

Your highlight film runs to around ten minutes. It follows the shape of the day, from the nervous calm of the morning through the ceremony, the drinks reception, the portraits and into the evening, cut together from short moments and set to music. It isn't a slideshow of your photographs with a song over the top. Almost all of it is real footage. Where it helps the story, I'll fold in a few stills from your gallery, but the film stands on its own. The parts that matter most get their real sound. I use wireless microphones during the ceremony and speeches, so the vows, the readings and the best lines from the speeches sit inside the film where they belong, clear enough to hear the catch in someone's voice.

How it works on the day.

This is what's known as hybrid wedding photography, and it's quieter than it sounds. Photographs always come first. Throughout the day, I move between stills and short video clips, usually around ten seconds at a time, at the moments that are worth more in motion: the dress going on, the doors opening, confetti, the first dance spinning out. During the ceremony and speeches, a small mic does the listening while I keep photographing.

What that means for you:

• One person, not a crew. No second team to brief, feed, or seat, and no one jostling for the same spot at the top of the aisle.

• No extra time out of your day. We don't repeat your couple portraits for a separate camera. We shoot the film in the same window as your photographs.

• One consistent look. The same eye, the same light, the same colour grade across your photographs and your film, so the two feel like they belong together.

• No camera fatigue. You won't feel like you're on a set, which is exactly the point of how I work.

Is a highlight film right for you?

I'll be honest about where this sits. It's a step up from a content creator filming on a phone, and a step down in scale from a full cinematic videographer with a team, drones and a feature-length edit. It's a lovely fit if you want your day to feel relaxed and uncrowded, you'd like to hear your vows and speeches again, and you'd rather watch ten great minutes than an hour you'll never sit through. A dedicated videographer is the better choice if you want a multi-camera feature film, the full ceremony and every speech in their entirety from several angles, or a highly produced, cinematic piece. If that's you, ask, and I'll happily point you towards people I trust.

What's included.

• A highlight film of around ten minutes, edited in 4K

• Ceremony and speech audio recorded on wireless microphones and woven into the film

• Music licensed for your film.

• Delivered by private online link to watch, download and keep within 8–10 weeks.

Investment.

Wedding highlight film: £650 when added to any full-day photography collection. I offer the film as an add-on to my wedding photography because I'm already there, already part of your day, and already working in the light. That's what lets me make it without the cost and footprint of a separate team. For film-only bookings, it's £1500.

Questions about highlight films.

Will my photographs suffer if you're filming as well?

No. Stills are my priority all day. The clips are short and taken at moments I've already photographed or where a second of motion tells you more than a frame. The ceremony and speeches are recorded on microphones, so I'm not choosing between your audio and your pictures.

Is it mostly my photos set to music?

No. The film is built from real video footage. A handful of stills may appear where they help the story, and you're welcome to request favourites.

Will we hear our vows and speeches?

Yes. We record key lines from the vows, readings, and speeches with wireless audio and place them into the film.

Do we get to choose the music?

Tell me the mood you'd like, and I'll choose licensed tracks to match. We can't use commercial chart songs because of licensing on YouTube and social media.

Can we share the film online?

Of course. You'll get a version ready for social media, as well as the full-quality film to watch at home.

How long until we receive it?

Typically within 8-10 weeks. Your photographs are delivered on their usual timeline, so you won't wait longer for the gallery because of the film.

Can we book a highlight film without photography?

Yes, film-only bookings are £1500 — please get in touch with your date.

Do you film weddings outside Moray?

Yes. I film and photograph weddings across Inverness, the Highlands, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, Caithness, Fife and further across Scotland, as well as elopements anywhere from Glencoe to Skye.

The day, with the sound turned up. If you'd like a highlight film alongside your photographs, send me your date and venue, and I'll let you know whether I'm free. I reply to every enquiry within 24 hours.
