Wedding photography at Boleskine House, Loch Ness
Boleskine House sits above the south shore of Loch Ness near Foyers. After years of restoration, it opened its doors in April 2026 and has started taking weddings, so plenty of couples are only now finding out it's an option.
I'm a wedding photographer based in Moray, and Boleskine is an easy run down the loch for me. If you've booked the house or you're weighing it up, this page covers what the venue is like, how I'd photograph a day there and the questions couples tend to ask.
About Boleskine House as a wedding venue
The house was built in the 1760s and is B-listed. The Boleskine House Foundation, a Scottish charity, owns it and bought it after two fires, spending years rebuilding it. Wedding money goes back into looking after the house and the land around it.
Weddings are exclusive use. On your day, the house and its 35 acres are yours, with no visitors wandering through. Each wing has its own getting-ready suite, so you and your partner can prepare apart without bumping into each other on the stairs. The venue takes bookings seven days a week and prices everything to suit the wedding, so you'll need to ask them directly for a quote.
You can have a civil, humanist or handfasting ceremony there, or a vow renewal. Smaller weddings can stay in and around the house. Bigger ones add a marquee in the grounds.
It's on General Wade's Military Road (IV2 6XT), about 25 minutes from Inverness and 40 minutes from Inverness Airport. There's free on-site parking with EV charging, which helps if guests are driving up from the central belt.
You've probably heard about the house's past. Aleister Crowley bought it in 1899, and Jimmy Page owned it in the 1970s. Some couples love that story and want it in the day. Others would rather leave it out. Both are fine with me.
How I'd photograph your day at Boleskine
Boleskine is new to weddings, so nobody has a well-worn route round it yet. Before your day, I'll go down, walk the grounds and speak to the venue team about where we can and can't go. That way we're not working it out on the day while your guests wait.
With a suite in each wing, I can cover both of you getting ready without losing much time between rooms. Once you're married, I'd rather keep group shots short and get the two of you out towards the loch, the gardens and the woodland while your guests have a drink.
Highland weather does what it likes. If it's wet, the restored rooms inside and the shelter of the trees give us plenty to work with, and a bit of mist on the loch can make for some of the best pictures of the day.
The venue is careful about filming and photography on site. For anything beyond normal wedding photography, like a drone or an extra shoot on another day, I'll clear it with them first.
Small weddings and elopements at Boleskine
Boleskine takes micro weddings and small ceremonies as well as full days, and the house suits a small group. A dozen people around a table in a 260-year-old manor on Loch Ness makes for a great day out.
For these I'd suggest my Elopement Story. It's four hours of coverage, which is enough for getting ready, the ceremony, a proper wander for portraits and the start of your meal. If you want me there into the evening, we can talk about half-day or full-day coverage instead.
