Ardoe House Hotel Weddings | Aberdeen Wedding Photographer
If you’re planning an Ardoe House Hotel wedding, you already know what makes it special.
It’s that rare mix of grand Scottish character and proper comfort. A baronial mansion with turrets, stained glass, original details and warm hospitality, but with the ease of a hotel where everyone can settle in, relax, and make a whole weekend of it.
Just a few minutes outside Aberdeen, Ardoe gives you that “away from it all” atmosphere without the hassle for guests travelling in. And from a photography point of view, it’s packed with beautiful light, elegant spaces, and a brilliant mix of outdoor and indoor options (which is precisely what you want in the north-east of Scotland).
I’m Mike, the photographer behind Fitlike Photography, and if you want your day documented naturally, with calm guidance when you need it, you’ll feel right at home here.

Why Ardoe House feels so good on a wedding day
Ardoe has presence. You feel it the moment you arrive.
There’s the drama of the architecture, the charm in the small details, and then the calm you get from having everything in one place, from prep, ceremony, drinks, dinner, dancing, and a bed waiting at the end of it all.
It’s the kind of venue that works whether you’re going classic and formal, relaxed and modern, or somewhere in between. And because the space has so much character, your photos feel timeless without trying too hard.
Wedding ceremony spaces at Ardoe House
One of the best things about Ardoe is choice. You can keep it intimate or go big, and it still feels like your day.
The suites have their own atmosphere, and the layout makes the day flow naturally—no awkward room changes. Just a smooth, relaxed pace, start to finish.
And if the weather behaves, the grounds give you the option of an outdoor ceremony too, which is hard to beat on a soft Scottish summer afternoon. I’ve had a June wedding here with not a cloud in the sky.
Getting ready at Ardoe House
Getting ready on-site makes everything feel easier.
You’re not rushing between locations. You’re not watching the clock. You can actually enjoy the morning, the chats, the nerves, and the excitement as it builds.
I’ll photograph the real moments as they happen, quietly and naturally, alongside the details you’ve chosen (dress, flowers, jewellery, stationery), without turning your morning into a staged shoot.
If you fancy it, Ardoe is also ideal for a simple first look somewhere peaceful, in gorgeous window light, a private moment before the day properly begins.

Couple portraits at Ardoe House offer maximum variety with minimum time away.
You don’t need to disappear for ages to get beautiful couple portraits here.
Ardoe gives you loads of variety within a short walk. The grand exterior. The grounds. The elegant indoor features. Big natural light through tall windows. Sheltered spots in case the weather turns. And a long drive for those walking photos.
My approach is always the same: keep it relaxed, keep it quick, and keep it feeling like you. A few short pockets of time through the day beat an hour of forced posing every time. It keeps you relaxed and helps you make the most of your time alone.
You get the photos, but you don’t lose your wedding day.
What if it rains? (Spoiler: your photos will still be unreal)
Aberdeen weather likes to keep things interesting, but Ardoe is one of those venues that has a proper built-in plan B.
Even if it’s windy, wet, or sideways rain, there are so many indoor options that still feel classy and “venue-worthy” — not like you’ve been shoved into a dark corridor to make it work.
You’ll still get beautiful portraits. You’ll still get atmosphere. And you’ll still get that timeless, editorial feel without freezing outside for it.
The party at Ardoe; dancefloor energy done properly
When the evening kicks in, Ardoe comes alive.
Whether it’s a DJ, a band, or a full ceilidh that turns into chaos in the best way… It’s a venue that holds a party brilliantly. The dancefloor fills, the atmosphere builds, and people stop noticing the camera.
That’s always my goal, photos that feel like the night actually was, not staged “look over here” moments.
Just real laughter, real movement, and that slightly wild energy you’ll want to relive forever.
Wedding photography at Ardoe House Hotel
I photograph weddings across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire throughout the year, and Ardoe is one I always look forward to.
It’s elegant, relaxed, and full of character, but the real magic is always the people. The nerves. The hugs. The proud parents. The in-between moments you didn’t even realise were happening.
If you want natural wedding photography with a premium finish, storytelling first, with gentle direction when it helps, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
Ardoe House Hotel wedding photography packages
I keep my packages simple and built around what couples actually want.
Most couples choose full-day coverage, because it tells the complete story, from the morning through to the first dance (and the madness afterwards). I like getting in the middle of your first few dances to capture the action.
If you’d like something to keep forever, I also offer handcrafted wedding albums — the kind you leave out on the coffee table and end up looking through every time friends come round.

Ardoe House Weddings FAQs
Where is Ardoe House Hotel?
Ardoe House Hotel & Spa is just outside Aberdeen on South Deeside Road, Blairs (AB12 5YP). It feels countryside and private, but it’s close enough for guests travelling in and easy to reach from the city.
How far is Ardoe House from the Aberdeen city centre?
It’s about 3 miles from Aberdeen city centre, which is ideal if you want a country-house feel without being remote.
Can you get married at Ardoe House Hotel?
Yes, since Ardoe can have civil ceremonies, you can have your whole day there.
Can we have an outdoor ceremony at Ardoe House?
In the right weather, yes. The grounds are brilliant for outdoor moments, and the venue team will guide you through options depending on the season.
How many guests can Ardoe House accommodate?
Ardoe has multiple suites, so it works for both intimate weddings and larger celebrations. For example, the Ogston Suite holds up to 150 for a ceremony/dinner and 180 in the evening, and the Ballroom Suite can host larger numbers (up to 500 in the evening). Smaller spaces like the Fraser and Elliot Suites are ideal for more intimate guest lists.
How long do couple photos take at Ardoe House?
Not long. Most couples only need 20–25 minutes at a time. I’d rather do a few short sessions throughout the day than pull you away from your guests for ages.
What are the best photo spots at Ardoe House?
The front of the building is a classic backdrop; the grounds offer open space and greenery; and indoors, you’ve got beautiful window light and character features that work year-round.
What if the weather is bad?
No stress. Ardoe is great in bad weather because you still have light, space, and elegant indoor portrait options that don’t feel like a compromise.
Can you photograph bridal prep at Ardoe House?
Absolutely — it’s one of the best parts of having a hotel venue. Everything is on-site and calm, allowing the morning to flow naturally.
Do you offer albums?
Yes. If you want something physical that lasts, I offer beautifully made wedding albums, timeless, premium, and designed to be kept for generations.
